Gauguin was truly a weird guy. He left his family and a good job in France to paint in Tahiti in search of something "raw" and "primitive." He was effeminate so he hung out with women all day. He introduced venereal diseases there and didn't bother learning the language. Everyone cursed him under their breath.

Just got an Amazing book of his life and works today - looks fascinating. Love all the work he did in Tahiti and the obvious influence the Natives and Culture had on him - Some Beautiful Images. |
